“Speech of the Century” Wows Media, Not Voters

Barack Obama’s campaign changing moment and the media’s intellectual masturbation session following the speech seemed to have little traction with voters in many of the nation’s swing states. It seems the voters are not electing a successor to Martin Luther King; they want to elect a President.

Polls taken in November swing states show it is Hillary Clinton who leads Barack Obama in a hypothetical match up with John McCain. This is news because no poll has shown this since Super Tuesday. Pennsylvania is 4 weeks away and the DNC continues to ignore the voices of two pivotal swing states in November. Hillary Clinton may go into the convention trailing Barack Obama in pledged delegates, but if she carries 3 months worth of momentum into the convention, the superdelegates will have no choice really, especially considering Obama’s lead would probably not exist if June primaries are held in Michigan and Florida.

My friend Dan Arnold says Hillary Clinton winning states now is like the Toronto Maple Leafs winning hockey games this late in the season: too little, too late. The only problem with that metaphor is that if the Leafs finish 9th or 10th, and the NHL had superdelegates, who do you think would be playing the Habs in the first round?

Actually Antonio, the DNC isn't ignoring anybody - Michigan and Florida knowingly broke the rules by moving their delegates up, and the DNC has no obligation to bend over and reward these states for their behaviour. I suspect if it was Obama in the reverse position demanding this, you'd be saying the same thing I did.

By the way, new polls out show that a large majority of Americans liked his speech, even if you didn't (and you don't count, nor do I, nor anyone else north of the border). Not only that, Gallup shows that trend as well as he is now closing the gap nationally that existed before the Wright speech.

By November, this Wright stuff will be nothing but a minor blip... and his speech will be remembered as a a turning point.

that certainly is what the media wants scott but as it stands, clinton has all the momentum.

If Howard Dean wants to exclude two pivotal swing states from the national discussion, he will face the consequences of it.

As for the superdelegates, Hillary's job is to keep the momentum. If she runs the table, she will make the superdelegates really ask themselves if they wanna support a guy who peaked in February...

...and that splashing sound you just heard was of Antonio's argument jumping the shark.

Saying that "Obama peaked in February!" doesn't seem quite relevant when Clinton peaked in 2007, that bit about "excluding pivotal states from the discussion" essentially conceded the "MA/FL cheated" point...

...but to then try to play gotcha by saying "but I hate the leader of the Liberal party, so you should defer to my opinion"?

Definitely seeing a mental image of the Fonz in swim trunks, and it isn't pretty.

demosthenes, instead of insulting me, explain how if clinton runs the table Obama will not have peaked in the month of February.

Why exactly should the voters of two key states be disenfranchised because some party hacks wanted to move up the primary? The voters didn't break the rules, a few over zealous partisans did. It is for that reason, that yes, the DNC should be bending over backwards to give voters a chance, they shouldn't be punished because a few idiots didn't listen. In a race this close, you have to make it as legitimate as possible, leaving out Florida and Michigan is a disgrace.

The greatest democracy on earth, and people can't figure out a redo? Give me a flipping break, more nonsense I've never heard. Obviously some people aren't trying to hard enough, and we know who they are.
