Priority #6 Attack the Opposition?

With nobody attacking each other in the Liberal Leadership Race, it seems the Tories have decided to get involved in throwing crap across the aisle.

With a multi-ballot vote in December eminent, the Liberals have all remained civil with each other. Mike Fluffy and co. in the press corps are looking for blood, taking anything from anywhere to constitute an attack.

Today, Conservative Dave Batters took to attacking Michael Ignatieff in an SO 31. Monday, Michael asked a question regarding the measly addition to spending on research and development. The Liberals led the G8 in research spending, the Tories apparently wanted to create prison spaces.

Batters attacked the Liberal record from 1995, despite the fact that the Liberals rectified that situation by 2000. But Batters also took to attacking the fact that Michael would have known the situation better if he had been in Canada at the time.

I never remember Tory members attacking other members’ SO 31s. I must have watched 100 QPs when I was in the house, and I don’t remember it ever being necessary for the government to attack opposition members in the fifth row no less!

Either the Tories have nothing better to do, or they fear the return to power of the Liberals under any of our leadership candidates. It is clear the only ones throwing mud into this leadership race will come from people who aren’t Liberals but people whose sole goal it is to bring this party down.

The Tories want the race to turn negative and to turn bloody. Mike Fluffy and the press corps would also like to see some blood. Too bad guys, you’ll be disappointed…this is a debate of ideas!

Idea's?

Yeah right....

All the contenders have done so far is throw a few vauge statements about general idea's so as not to turn off any potential delegate.

I wouldn't mind a few of the Liberal's running to bring up the fact that Ignatieff last was a resident of Canada when Welcome Back Kotter was the top rated sitcom.

Or that Bob Rae thinks softwood lumber deals make the government Nazi's. You can take the wacky man out of the NDP, but you can't take wacky NDP hyperbole out of the man it seems.

The fact the Conservative government brings up Mr.Ignatieff absence from Canada, is alarming, the Conservatives will score a lot of mileage out of this in a general election. The average Canadian will have trouble relating to a 60 year old academic who has lived the vast majority of his adult life in foreign nations. This will not be seen as renewing the Liberal Party.

As the Ignatieff campaign comes crashing down in Quebec because of all the in-fighting, our friends at Fuddle Duddle now have to find something else to write about.

So, as a public service, here is a re-cap of the "unity" being developed by Michael Ignatieff's Campaign in La Belle Province.

It all started with former Pierre Pettigrew organizr, Jean Sebastien Marineau jumping ship, after he signed a contract with Beinda Stronach, to the Iggy Camp. He broke the heart of his old buddy Richard Mimeau and started lambasting Brigitte Legault, who a few days earlier he was touting as the next super-Minister from Quebec in a Stronach Government.

Well, Marineau had only just settled in when Pablo Rodriguez, the over-rated MP and former Party Boss in Quebec decided that he wanted to take control of the Iggy machine in Quebec. Marineau was pushed aside and Pablo installed Mario Poirier (a nice guy but with zero organizational experience or ability) in the top job. He also brought in Pat Feury as co-dirctor. Feurey is best known for playing a co-starring role in the Gomery Commission and for raking in the $'s at election time by charging huge fees to have party posters put up on lamp posts and highways around the province.(ever wonder why the PLC-Q is 4 million in debt - Think Pablo and Pat!!)

Well, this week it all got better. Marineau, while still collecting a hefty Iggy paycheck, decided to go on a little European holiday for 10 days. When he returns he will see some sweet justice in play as Pablo and his gang get pushed aside in favour of the Alfons Gagliano trained, Denis Coderre, MP.

Coderre will take over Iggy's Quebec Campaign. Blood will be spilled and Pablo will be the loser. If nothing else, Coderre knows how to win a street fight.

Meanwhile, Bob and John Rae are quitely assembling a huge team. Serge Pacquette is raising 1 Million dollars for Rae in Quebec and the machine is in motion.

Dryden has hired Daniel Dezainde to organize for him but has not given him any resources.

Kennedy has nothing going.

Brison is raising money thanks to Vince Guzzo and has a network in the Young Liberals and Gay Community.

Hedy Fry was in town last week.

The big surprise might be Stephane Dion. He is reviving the Trudeau wing of the Party. Lots of votes to be had there!

Stay tuned for more....

So marie-H,

Nice to see you throwing mud at people. Michael's team in Quebec has drawn supporters from across the province because they truly believe he is the best choice for leader of the party.

The fact that rivals from the previous leadership are all coming together to work for Michael in Quebec is telling, but I guess you just want to call it infighting.

We have a team that reaches across a broad spectrum of Quebeckers. We are working together to get Michael elected.

Keep spreading the mud marie-h, but next time, I suggest you leave an email where all Michael supporters in Quebec can drop you a line to tell you how united we really are!

It's Mike Duffy Antonio, not Mike Fluffy. Stop drinking vodka while watching politics on TV. At least do a la canadienne and drink Whiskey.

Somehow, I think Ignatieff will have trouble relating to the average Canadian... a Harvard prof who hasn't lived in Canada in 30 years might have trouble relating to Canadians who are working hard to pay bills and taxes.

Also, Ignatieff's 'amazing' ability to speak French doesn't guarantee Quebec votes. That is plain stupid and an insult to Quebec voters. All you need to see is how much Harper's average French has put the Conservative back on the map in Quebec and saved federalism for another day, no thanks to the Liberals.

Marie-H, Bang on!
Objective and full of interesting inside-scoop.
And my dear threatened Antonio, in terms of mud throwing, well, you know what a pot calls a kettle, right?

Nice inside scuttle Marie- h.

I too hve noticed the Iggy people in panic mode. Dryden ispicking up steam and so is Dion. Evrything seems to be at Iggy's expense.

Even Rae picked up quite a few "Iggy" people in the lst 10 days.
