Kennedy to 13 year Female Liberal MP “Take a hike!”

Blah Blah women candidates this and that

It’s all rhetoric when you consider the following fun facts…

Stephane Dion bumped Shirley Maheu to run…

Michael Ignatieff bumped Jean Augustine

And now Gerard tells Sam Bulte to take a hike.

I hope Bob Rae has the common decency to replace a man.

Clearly political correctness MUST prevail!

I remember the rhetoric...so Gerard is really a westerner you know. He only spent a few years in Toronto hes not an Ontarian. He will help us re-take the west. He wants more women in the Liberal caucus, except where it concerns his own political future.

So where does Gerard end up…Toronto…kicking out a woman who won the riding 4 times who had declared her intention to run anyway. Yes Bulte got caught in the wave. Many people did. Many are being allowed to run again. Why not Sam Bulte?

The way we regain power is to prove to people that NOW, we will actually do what we say (we had a small problem with that before).

Keeping more female MPs around would have been a good way to start.

If getting more women elected to Parliament is one empty promise, how are we to convince voters we are sincere about all the others?

Don’t forget, we talked a good game about the environment before too…

Stop the press! Gerard Kennedy runs in his own riding!

Antonio, Am Bulte lost her riding to us. He did not bumped her; she frickin' lost to the NDP, and now he goes for the riding, which he represented provincially for ten years. Would he be kicking a MP, as Iggy (your little favorite!) did, it would be outrageous; now, he's barely trying to win you a seat, instead of getting a safe one.

Please, "ne monte pas sur tes grands chevaux" each time a woman doesn't get a nomination... Final numbers are going to be the one that matters.

I should point out as well that Progressive Bloggers publicly endorsed the defeat of Ms. Bulte for her stance on copyright issues - so it bothers me none that a) she lost, and b) she wont be running again.

Sorry Chris but Augustine was not running.

and I do make the Ignatieff point as being similar in my post.

If Bob Rae wanted Ahuntsic, would Eleni Bakopanos have to step aside, another 4 time winner who lost?

What matters here is a 4 term MP wants the riding again and we tell her no but we will certainly have no problem saying yes to the other 4 term MPs who lost.

Two Quebec ridings are being reserved for star candidates. All the names so far that are surfacing belong to men...

Marc Garneau being a certain one and the Outremont situation still uncertain.

We are still looking for a riding for dear Justin...there arent that many winnable ones on the island Chris, maybe 4 that we can pick up.

Bakopanos, who after 4 wins, deserves a second shot.

Papineau

Jeanne LeBer

Brossard where mayor for 13 years Paul Leduc will be a star candidate.

We will see how many of those ridings go to women as those are the winnable 6 options.

Kennedy was saying he was from manitoba so often, he should have ran in Alcock's riding where we lost by even less than PHP

Kennedy is the best bet to win back the riding - he won a ridiculous majority there provincially last election.

My preference is to win as many seats as possible with good candidates. Given that Gerard is a good candidate and the best person to win Parkdale, it seems like a logical fit.

Hopefully more female candidates will be found, but you can't say that no men are allowed to run if there's a female who wants the same riding as them.

Sorry Dan

On this we will have to disagree.

There is no doubt Kennedy can win this one handily but we should put him somewhere we need that littl bit of star power.

You were one of the people championing Gerard for his western roots. His supporters went to great lengths to call him the western candidate.

Now he runs out of downtown Toronto, telling a 13 year veteran MP too bad in the process.

This turfing women for leadership candidates is rapidly becoming a bad Liberal trend...

Sounds like Antonio is still bitter that GK ruined his party.

Earth to Antonio! There is no sitting female Liberal MP in the riding and none of the talk about increasing female representation in Ottawa has ever suggested that the riding of Parkdale-High Park needs to be a riding in which a female runs.

Does that mean Tony Ianno and Eleni Bakopanos have to go as well?

I would say no.

But seems the Kennedy people think anybody who lost is automatically deemed inappropriate for their riding...

No. But it means that you can't call it pushing them aside when someone else runs. If you lose you're nomination isn't protected the next time around.

Thank you for this post and including Michael in it. Although Stepahne did not do that, Martin did, along with eliminate several other female MP's Sheila, Carol, Eleni and others who had their ridings redrawn in favour of male candidates.

Gerrard has disappointed as he did call himself the western candidate. That being said, Dion promised him a riding he could win and Gerrard chose this one. he was told not a safe liberal riding although this one comes so close it might as well be in the next election and yes a women could have won it.

It will be open to a nomination battle and at least one women is considering it. Turner's riding of HAlton culd also have easily been won as he would have split the vbote and barely won last time. Justin's go ahead also another anouncement for a male. That makes three in about as many days.

Trust me I have let my displeasure be known and so should others. I trust Stephane will keep his promise to women. I ask that men in the Liberal fammily not question it or complain that it is unfair when women are appointed for nominations.

Male leadership candidates taking ridings from women will make this more necessary, including the set backs fro women that happened under Martin.

Please please please don't complain when women are put into ridings. It's routine when it is done for men.

Perhaps somewhat regrettable that he didn't run in the west and he's replacing a woman but that's just the political reality of the situation. I think family played a large part of this decision as well. And technically anyone could still run for the nomination in the riding.

In other news Stephen Owen won't be running in the next election and this seat might be replaced with a woman.

I believe Mandy Maghera is going to run for the nomination in Mississauga-Streetsville as well.

Chris said it right.

And for you to comment on that while Iggy was parachuted from a DIFFERENT COUNTRY is very wrong.

hey rachel

Jean augustine is on the record saying she did not want those who took over her riding association to win the nomination.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good argument tho.
