Let’s Actually Be Rational…And Prevent Chernamania From Overcoming Us
Edit: I seriously will refrain from ever using sarcasm ever again.
Anybody who thinks this is a defense of Jason Cherniak, please read it again.
Second, I defended blogging dippers a month ago when Jason went after Robert McClelland because Blogging Dippers were being painted with the same brush. I did not think that was justified.
All I ask is for the same respect back. If you are angry at Jason, please take it out on him. But if I ever get told that I am a certain way because of what another blogger says, I am gonna blow a gasket.
To my Prog Blog colleagues, don’t get angry. When was the last time Jason led by example? Exactly. Let’s try rationality for a change.
Can bloggers re-print every rumor they hear on their blogs and not assume there will be any consequences if they put a copout “this is a rumour” clause?
The answer in the usual Jason Cherniak way is yes and no.
Yes because the insistence that it is a rumor removes any legal consequences from the statement. Nobody can get sued for doing what Jason did to Olivia Chow here or Cheri DiNovo a few months ago.
No because there are tangible impacts to the Liberal Blogging arena when its principal pundit engages in such a smear. It leads too undermining his credibility and with an election on the horizon, is someone Cherniak is trying to spin going to believe him?
Blogs played a small role in the Quebec election because the party bloggers on all sides managed to spin stories into newspapers. Like one veteran political reporter tells me often “Antonio, it’s not spin if it is the truth. It is spin if you are trying to create the truth.”
To all those who think one blogger speaks for the entire party, put a lid on it.
Did anybody except Jason think Robert McClelland spoke for the NDP?
I didn’t think so.
So let’s all be rational…and let Cherniak be Cherniak…

You can't make a direct comparison between McLelland and Cherniak. The latter was your current leader's Blog Campaign Co-Chair and has other official positions within the party even if the aggregator comes with a disclaimer.
To your ProgBlog colleagues? It's not a ProgBlogger problem if Cherniak makes the Liberals look like idiots. It's a Liblogger problem.
The next time you're inclined to tell me -- a ProgBlogger -- to "put a lid on it", don't bother. You won't like my answer. It will be a lot less civil than this one is.
with all due respect,
the only point I was trying to make is that these people speak for themselves, not the party.
They speak for themselves, and not their blogroll.
Both ran blogrolls, both made outrageous statements.
I didnt tell progbloggers to put a lid on it, only those who want to make a federal case out of one blogger's ridiculous statements...
For the record, I have said this directly to many Liberal Bloggers before.
I can confirm he's told that directly to other Liberal bloggers before. :)
And I agree: one blogger's opinion or statements shouldn't be held against the entire list of bloggers they're affiliated with or assumed that all believe the same thing. That would be true for all blogging rolls.. not just Liblogs.
They might both run blogrolls but only one fills his sidebar with credits about his official connections with his party of choice. And Cherniak himself is the one who played the guilt by association card when he went after Robert and brought the Blogging Dippers and the NDP itself into it.
I'll give you another reason why there's no comparison between the two. Robert has given generously of his time and expense in support of the progressive blogosphere and blogging in general. Cherniak has never done a damn thing that didn't benefit him personally.
If you've dealt directly with Liberal bloggers on the problem Cherniak represents for your party, bully for you. Keep it up. But association with ProgBloggers shouldn't carry with it any responsibility for protecting the reputation of the Liberal party. And at the first hint that it does, I'll be gone so fast you'll have to scratch your head and think hard to remember I was ever there.
PS: I actually wasn't angry before but I am now.
Antonio, I'm going to use your legallogic. "Yes because the insistence that it is a rumor removes any legal consequences from the statement. Nobody can get sued for doing what Jason did to Olivia Chow here or Cheri DiNovo a few months ago."
So therefore, because Jason just posts sexist and racist inneundo about others that's ok, because there are no legal consequences from those types of statements. So we should all play nice and let Jason post this unprogressive crap because Jason is just being Jason (like boys will be boys).
Yet, on the other hand, where Robert McLelland supposedly made a anti-seminite statement, he was thrown out of prog bloggers for being supposedly unprogressive. What he said also would have no legal consequences under Canada's human rights and freedoms, so if that is the bar here, there sure seems to be a different bar for some prog bloggers. Some boys can be boys when they belong to the liberal party is what I am reading between your line in.
What lib bloggers do about Jason, is not of interest to me, but Jason just crossed the line, and you by this post say that's ok, that's she personal opinion, and well boys will be boys. Absolutely pathetic copout.
When did smearing, sexism and racism become progressive?
I realized S.B. hasn't shown up yet, so I'm going to fill the void:
Antonio,
What about your Croation ancestors? Croations have deep, historical connections to Sadaam Hussein and they tried to turn kurdish women into two-penny whores. How can you excuse any of the attacks the Croation army under Mussolini waged in the Gulf War? Not to mention that your grandfather killed thousands of children by flaying the skin and flesh off their bones and forcing them to watch Welcome Back, Kotter reruns as he did the deed. Your grandfather also financed the last four Police Academy films, an even greater crime than genocide in many democratic nations.
Because of this you are a racist, anti-semite, bigoted, sexist, masochistic, Portuguese pig. You run banks. How can you run banks? They run banks. Evil racist. Heathen.
S.B.
