French Election Hijinx

I don’t get to vote in this one like I did in Italy, but it is no secret I would advise all French citizens to vote for Segolene Royal.

Here are a few of pieces of propaganda that I enjoyed from the Anti-Sarko youth.

I should note that Sarko's politics resemble those of Mario Dumont...

Also, in Europe, Liberal means economic liberal. Therefore, in Europe, I would be called a socialist…

Sarkozy is Jean-Marie Le Pen with more cops and a French Michelle Muntean...shudder

Allez Sego!

Antonio, you forgot to say that Sarkozy is an alien reptilian that eats kittens. Come on man, I'm expecting you to cover all your bases!

I think some of Segolene's far-left supporter have similar strategies. Common ground? I wouldn't know. But you did vote for Prodi's coalition, which included communists, so I'm guessing you'd have a better picture of the far-left than I do.

its like in Italy

I would vote for Communists before I voted for separatists and fascists

I would vote for commies before I voted for Le Pen as well...

Ya, its like his crime platform came from a Charles Dickens novel.
Problems with social unrest? Throw em in jail!

But then again, Royal's not much better. Social unrest? Put them on welfare, while the middle class white French work their union jobs and work 35 hours a week. Social justice, I think not.

At least Sarkozy might be able to take down the wall between France's split labour markets (the ins and the outs). That might do more in the long run to help integrate immigrants.

Antonio,

I'm shocked. I mean, its not my country, so they can bankrupt themselves to their heart's content - but how could you support that?

And her cozying up to Hizbullah? Sorry buddy, but that IS facism.

Chucker,

I'm all for Sarko, but the Hizbollah thing is just ridiculous political hyperbole. That, the Chinese 'justice' incident, the Québec gaffe, and the radio gaffe instigated by a Québec jockey proved Royal is clearly incapable of being an effective diplomat, but to suggest she's cozy with terrorists is dishonest. Ségo scares me because her approaches to law and order, cultural censorship, and youth justice are all mirror images of Joseph Lieberman's. Ségo scares me because she wants to repeal the CNE, which will kill small and large businesses, wants to give 90% of salary out to the unemployed for the first year after they lose their job, and claimed she'd give all youths jobs within six months without actually proposing a policy that demonstrates this is even remotely possible. Sarkozy is the only hope France has, if it wants to regain its financial footing and step into the markets of the 21st century.

andrew,

fair points. I can't pretend that I follow French politics too closely anyway. so I defer to you on it.

As a Harpermaniac, all I can say is I would feel very depressed living in France - oh wait, I'd do what so many of the kids I'm interviewing these days do, I'd move to Quebec.
