Scott Brison Get Off that High Horse

Did Scott Brison just compare Michael Ignatieff to Fred Flinstone, Stockwell Day?

Oh no he didnt...

Scott Brison talking about Gaffes is downright hilarious

Hey Scott, do you know what the pot calls the kettle?

First there is Blackberry Booboo

Then there is Kiss My Ass Biotch

Let’s not forget the "Paul Martin is the Worst Minister of Finance until he gives me a Job"

And that is ALL before we get to the all the Liberal Party Gossip Hour Gong Show Stories...

So Scott, at least Michael is new to politics, you have been screwing up for years, so I think the the term for it is STFU, which last time I checked, was a university in BC…Simon T Fraser University...right Angela?

This is what Michael ACTUALLY said... I expected the smearing from Tories, not from Scott Brison

Q: If you lose the Liberal leadership race, will you run for the party in the next election?Ignatieff: Depends who's leader.

Q: Have you indicated there are some that you would not run for?
Ignatieff: No. It really is that I have to look what I am looking at.

Q: Your track record, your history is that you move on to other projects again and again and again.
Ignatieff: In a rival publication.

Q: Yes it's been suggested that this is just another fling ...

Ignatieff: It's a hell of a fling if it is. I mean, the fling stuff won't fly. It has been brutal.Etobicoke-Lakeshore is very very, tough.

Q: But you won't commit to running in Etobicoke- Lakeshore again?
Ignatieff: I like to serve my constituents well. But you're asking me an anticipatory, hypothetical about the situation that prevails on the 3rd or 4th of December I am quite confident I will win.

Q: But do you have a commitment to the Liberal party long term?

Ignatieff: I've had a commitment to the Liberal party since I was 17. And my commitment to the Liberal party continues. But there are all kinds of ways you can stay committed and involved and active in the Liberal Party of Canada without being an MP.

Q: Without being an MP?

Ignatieff: Being an MP, without being an MP. I have been a Liberal all my life. When I go into rooms, people are glad I am in the room because people have read stuff Ihave written which has contributed to their sensibilities to be a Liberal and what Liberal philosophy is. There are all kinds of ways I can serve the party. Don't doubt my devotion to the Liberal Party of Canada. You wouldn't do this occasionally difficult job if you weren't seriously committed to it. Scott is right Iggy is an amateur. He says dumb things all the time. Anticipatory hypothetical????? That is not only arrogant, verbose and insulting to Liberals everywhere, its redundant.

PS Antonio, I find it interesting that you think its ok to enter the bedrooms of the nation when it suits your purpose. You really are quite juvenille aren't you? What Mr. Brison does in his own time with adults is no one's business, and it being highlighted by you is sad to say the least.

I think I'll add inexperienced to that last comment. You know why? Because these sorts of comments have so little traction in Canada. As you get older and more experienced you will understand why private lives are private and off base for people to comment. Even the article on your boy in the globe that speculated as to why his first marriage didn't work. Off base, this is no one's business. There are 10,000 reasons at least for why marriages don't work sometimes. There are at least 10,000 ways to express one's sexuality. All except a couple are off base to comment on. Stay out of people's private lives Antonio. It makes you look like an inexperienced juvenille young man who still lives at home, which you are.

All I said was Scott Brison saying someone was prone to gaffes was a little too rich for me.

I removed 8 words from my post which I have to admit were written when I was rather tired. I didnt reveal anything about anybody's private life Shoshana.

If 2 + 2 = 5. will you go back to elementary school?

I hate hypotheticals for the same reason Michael does.

The answer to your question is yes, if Joe Volpe wins, I will take a political vacation.

Antonio, the comments were most definately about Mr. Brison's private bedroom life and none of anyone's business. Whether or not they have been spoken about before, which is how I believe you are hedging this one, is not what I meant. I am, however, glad you have removed the comment about Mr. Brison's private life.

Iggy does not need apologists to try to coverup his very apparent blunders. I do not buy for one minute arguments made that he is a rookie MP. He has the best political staff money can buy, as well as impressive supporters including a good chunk of the caucus. Who is advising this guy. If Iggy wants to be Liberal Leader and Prime Minister he has to act and talk like a leader and realize these sort of mistakes is can cost the party an election. I really like Iggy at first as I thought he was a man of ideas and convictions. But after hearing him say that he wasn't losing any sleep over the Lebanon crisis and recent gaffe about his commitment to being an MP I am second-guessing my second choice. Brison was right to call Iggy on his weekly mistakes. Sure Brison made a mistake with the e-mail thing but he challenged and dealt with it head-on, rather then say something, then say something else, then retract... show some conviction man!

If this was a real Q&A session with Ignatieff, I don't think we have to worry about other people "smearing" him!! He does a good enough job himself!!

I wonder how he defines the word "commitment" as in, 'been committed to the Liberal Party since he was 17'. I can see where he might have been a committed small "l" liberal, but he wasn't even in the country for decades - as we all know. Was he buying LPC memberships all the while he was feeling right at home in Britain and then in the US??? If he was, and if he was active in other ways, then I'll believe he knows the dictionary definition of the word.

BUT when we are talking about "smears", constantly harping on Scott Brison's "Blackberry Booboo" - which I wrote about extensively on June 11th if you didn't already know the details - and linking to an article from canada.com back in March - consists of a worse smear in my opinion!!

Apart from the issue having been settled legally, the facts are that Brison never said anything to indicate there would be a change in the trusts legislation (read the e-mails at my site - they are from the pdf phhotos of the e-mails, and do not read quite the same as the canada.com "quotes"!!, that he didn't have any way of knowing about it, and that neither the friend he e-mailed, nor the firm the friend worked for, engaged in any unusual trading in the run-up to the legislation.

In fact, there were a number of other people who really were insiders and might have had good reasons and/or good friends who would have appreciated a heads up in advance.

In fact, the rumours had been flying for months, and the brokers were expecting such legislation to come down the pipe momentarily (again, see my article).

This issue should have been put to rest quite some time ago!!

Linking to an article during the scandal is smearing?

It was a booboo, even Scott called it a mistake in judgement.

What is wrong with mentioning something that happened. February is hardly ancient history.

Antonio... March isn't ancient history, but the article you linked to is not historical. It's simply out of date! So why did you link to that old story, rather than one that admits the blackberry messages were not a "scandal", but rather a minor mistake - if that?

The other story you linked to, also from last year, was unavailable without paying for it. Great link!! Only one sentence could be read: the allegation from a disgruntled worker.

However, from the very few other accounts I was able to find on the subject, it appears Scott may have told someone to kiss his ass.

OMG!!! How indelicate!! Why I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that any politician - any decent human being - would use such language and to a woman at that!! (Not.)

But you know, the woman herself seems to have picked the venue for her diatribe - out for dinner with her husband; maybe had a few drinks too many, who knows; suddenly felt like having it out with the fellow who had failed to advance her career as she'd hoped??

For all we know she may well have invited an indelicate retort; we only have her version of what went on; but Scott did the right thing, nevertheless and apologised.

In the story of Scott "smearing" your candidate, Brison said his "attack" (journalist's word) was prompted by Ignatieff’s refusal to commit to running in the next election if he doesn’t win the party’s leadership.

But isn't that exactly what Dr. Ig did?

As for gaffes, the same article reminds anyone who had forgotten, that "Only three weeks ago, Ignatieff had to douse another controversy, after saying he was "not losing sleep" over civilian deaths during the Israeli bombing of the Lebanese village of Qana. He admitted that remark was a mistake."

Heh. I guess both boys make mistakes from time to time, eh??

AS for the comparison with Day, it was about his jump from provincial politics to the Alliance federal leadership candidate minus federal experience.

That too is a fact, as well. We all know it. So are you saying that putting the two names together in one sentence is a smear?

You claim that Scott has been "screwing up" for years, yet he is the guy who took all the flak for the Liberal Party over Chretien's Adscam, when he hadn't even been a Liberal at that time. He did a damn good job of it, too! Where were the other long-time Liberals when they were needed??

Where was Ignatieff?

I can understand, of course, that you don't like Scott's negative view of the man you're endorsing, but he has said nothing that Ignatieff hasn't said about himself.

AActually Ignatieff has made way more substantial gaffes than any of the other candidates - although all have made them! - and since Scott is running against him, what else would you expect him to say? It's a political campaign for heaven's sake!!! You have to differentiate yourself from the other candidates somehow! And the voters we need in the next federal election should know that this is a party they can support!!

I would hope, however, that, when the dust settles at the end of this contest, the candidates will all do the regulation group hug as they gather on stage and raise the new leader's arms in the air.

Phil, what are you all talking about?!?

Richard Diamond is back in London for law school and doesn't even have internet access so he's not Grit Heart...lol

Who ever Grit Heart is, it's aint R. Diamond...

If you're going to make blog accusations, make sure to back them up.

And on the orginal topic of the post...

The leader of the party should be someone who is in it for the long haul. We need a leader who will reshape, rebuild, and grow with the party. If a candidate can not say they want to be part of the Liberal party in the near future, then there should be no place for them now. It's simple.

I hope Micheal does run for the a seat in Liberal Party in the future because I think he is a great addition as a MP.

When Scott talks about leadership, he talks about moving our party forward, that is what leadership should be about.

And like many, I am tired of elections and campaigns...let's get our house in order.
