Alberta Neo-Cons declare War on France?

Ok I have had exams the past couple of days, but I think it’s time to come defend my new boy Stephane Dion against what can only be seen as a cheap attempt of smearing by Ezra Levant and comical far-right morons at the Western Standard. I would like to take Exra’s Logic to the next step and list the

Top 10 French Things Ezra Levant Feels are a Threat to National Security

10) Baguettes: Clearly long and pointy things offend Ezra. Probably envy I guess…Ezra is way too “wonderbread” anyway.

9) Berets: The only hat a leader can wear is a Stetson, and only in Calgary. What if Stephane Dion starts Beret-Mania…it will be the end of Canada.

8) Cristobal Huet: This Canadiens star is French! He not only wears a visor but A WHOLE MASK. Sure he is a goalie but to Ezra this epitomizes slippery slope!

7) Les Miserables: Culture…oh no…not culture RUN! With that attitude, Ezra will only become a Miserable after the next election.

6) Champagne: Bottles? I think Ezra prefers it all straight from the box.

5) The Statue of Liberty: A gift from France in Liberal bastion New York. It clearly sends the message and gifts from France bring Liberalism!

4) Multiculturalism: First they eliminate the minister responsible, then they make it worse by putting Jason Kenney, Ezra prefers we all give up our other citizenships and melt right into the pot.

3) Ezra’s Osama Bin Laden…

2) The Truth: Never let fact the facts get in the way of a good argument. The only two elected prime ministers born outside Canada were Tories. Oops!

1) Irony: Ezra just finished backing an American for Premier of Alberta but scoffs that the Liberal leader holds dual citizenship with another country. Freedom Flapjacks at the Calgary Stampede next year!

Exactly - Turner had dual British-Canadian citizenship when he was Prime Minister (which wasnt for very long, I grant) and no one made a fuss about it back then.

It would be not a very good sign for this country if Dion did not get elected because he has dual citizenship and would refuse to relinquish it - tho I see he has said he will now if enough Canadians are uncomfortable with it - rather then focusing on relevant election issues like cuts to the Status of Women Canada, and the future of the wheat board, and the environment, and so on.

lol

forgot the word elected.

I'm sorry.

lemme change that. the point is moot if someone becomes PM by taking over. Ezra's point is he cant win.

honestly, I fail to see the problem with a prime minister, or even a potential prime minister, having dual citizenship...we managed to have more than one Catholic in that position without having the Vatican ruling us by proxy.

You should come out to the Alberta nation for Stampede Antonio.

Erza now claims he researched this and led the news cycle for almost a week on it. The research? Reading the G&M and Macleans profile from September. Erza is the type of person that infects Alberta's political culture that I could do without. Too bad he didn't get a commons seat, then at least he would be out of the province.

If one were to follow the Levant Rules of Logic, a Jewish person would have to renounce Judaism in order to become Prime Minister of Canada. Israel, like France and other countries, confers rights of citizenship in accordance to jus sanguinis (blood) while other countries confer those rights jus sole (soil).
Read on here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_sanguinis

Would Levant question a Jewish person's right to run?

This arguement is zenophobic barbaric and American. We pride ourselves in having multiculturalism and a country where all peoples can celebrate their identity. Mr. Dion's mother was French. Should he deny his mother and something she wanted for him and gave to him? Not unlike his name this was not his decision but hers.

I can't believe that Liberals would even entertain forcing someone to deny their mother in order to be leader. It is a disgusting arguement and Mr. Levent should be ashamed of himself. Mr. Dion should absolutely not deny his mother for this zenophobe.

Ms. Jean is representing the Queen in Canada. For legitimate British constitutional historic and diplomatic reasons, the British Queen cannot be represented by a French National. This has nothing to do with democracy or Canada not being governed by a dual citizen. Michaelle Jean is the Regent in Canada. It is entirely different and has historic merit.

Liberals should tell Levent to take a flying hike and defend Mr. Dion's mother.

Yeah, those right wing bastards like Pat Martin and Jack Layton are smearing poor Stephane. The only thing funnier than this is Stephane's over the top emotional tirade towards reporters and his flip to say, if his duality might prevent him from winning, he'd renounce his mother's gift of citizenship. How principled a stand!

In fact, I seem to remember some video of Stephane losing it during the election as well. Yup, a right cool and collected leader you guys have there.

Hey Rat...Is Ezra paying you to troll?

ti-guy, you talking to me? Calling ME a troll? Aren't you the king of the under-bridge set? I guess it hurts when truth gets in the way of good smearing. Unless you say I am lying about Taliban Jack and PM? Then again you and your buddy, "Joooooos" McLellan, never did worry about truth when a perfectly good lie would do.
