FIRE Emerson!

Word has leaked that the Liberal government and Industry Minister David Emerson had delayed finalizing a deal over softwood lumber before the imminent election in November because FPMPM wanted to blast George W. Bush.

Martin got punished…Emerson will get to be a hero for completing the deal.

It was mighty convenient for a guy who was gonna become minister in whatever party won anyway to say that we should wait. This is blatant partisan chicanery and it is our softwood lumber producers who are suffering. Shame on the PMO for putting stupidity ahead of Canadian lumber producers…Shame on Emerson for getting his golden parachute no matter which party won.

I would ask the nimrods who came up with the strategy to resign, but the electorate took care of them. How would solving the softwood lumber crisis be bad?

As for Emerson, these are serious charges, and Stephen Harper has to take his new minister to task. An offence this bad is a breach of trust...Emerson should be FIRED!

Denise I am calling today too...but I calling my Cabinet minister, Michael Fortier, he is the regional minister for Montreal nobody voted for...might as well kill two birds with one stone!

FIRE EMERSON!

The nimrods might not be in the PMO...but they are far from done in politics.

Wow. Emerson is no doubt a creep of the highest calibre for allowing morons like Cadario, Reid, Murphey, Brodie, et al to delay a deal that was costing innocent Candians money just because they hoped it might help them pick up a few B.C seats.

This new story is even worse than the floor crossing story for Emerson and the former "tall fowards" of the Liberal Party.

Your phrase "word leaked out" should be taken with a grain of salt. How about if I said "word leaked out that Mr. Martin is gay". Would that start a blog and would people call him or his supporters nimrods? Why don't you wait until the facts come out. Oh, I forgot. If you're Liberal you can't do anything wrong. But if you're Conservative, no matter what you do is wrong. Lets let the facts come out and if it's true, I'll be the first to say so. Isn't the code in Canada "innocent until proven guilty?"

Uh i just said that liberals who thought not solving the softwood lumber deal was a good idea were wrong.

I called them nimrods cuz well, thats what they are, nimrods.

Emerson confirmed the story, but by no means told reporters. He insists the deal was bad, which many believe is the same deal he will sign as trade minster...read the Star Article.

I am saying the whole time Liberals are wrong here. Harper should fire that small-c Liberal, thats all.

Stop accusing us Liberals of being holier-than-thou, I had no beef with someone leaving for a Cabinet seat, I supported Belinda, did I not?

I do not wanna commit Harpocrisy.

how about Emerson's role in fundraising?

Minister Emerson Must Clarify His Role About Fundraising: Liberal Party of
Canada BC President Says
06-02-09

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This morning, on CBC radio, David Emerson said that he raised a "tremendous"
amount of money for the Liberal Party of Canada in BC.

"David Emerson must be confused. He did not personally raise any money for
the Liberal Party," says Jamie Elmhirst, President of the Liberal Party of
Canada (British Columbia). "It would be against the Ethics Code for him to
do so."

"Minister Emerson, prior to losing his credibility by becoming a turn-coat
Harper supporter, was a popular Liberal minister. He was the speaker at a
number of party fundraising events, like many other Liberal cabinet
ministers. These events were organized by grassroots Liberal members and
fundraisers. But we doubt very much that he picked up the phone and
personally asked anyone for money, because if that were the case, he would
be compelled to resign," Elmhirst concluded.

The Conflict of Interest and Post Employment Code for Public Office Holders
states on page 16:

http://www.parl.gc.ca/oec/en/public_office_holders/conflict_of_interest/

Prohibited Activities

(16) Subject to section 17, public office holders shall not, outside their
official duties and responsibilities:

(g) personally solicit funds except for participation in fundraising
campaigns sponsored by the federal government and participation in
discussions of a strategic nature for charitable campaigns

You can all stop hyperventilating now. Those in the industry close to the negotiations have today said publicly that there was no deal at hand.

Come on, do you really think the U.S. administration was going to hand an easy political victory to a government they didn't like right on the eve of a campaign? They'll give a slightly better deal now to Harper, which will drive Liberals completely bananas.

You know Antonio, say all you want, but seriously, this holier than thou shit is true. Why do you think the country can't stand you guys? I was a Liberal for the longest time, but tire of all the partisan games, I've decided to support whoever does the best job. I am glad Emerson left because he will be the best one for the job.

I really wonder how much longer you guys will keep whining about Emerson. I think its hilarious. It just proves how pathetic you guys are and how broken your party is without him. It'll be a while for you guys to rebuild and that puts a big smile on my face to know you guys are going down kicking and screaming but no one cares. I love it.

Also, Paul Martin is an idiot. So is his BC Team. I hope they are on their way out - Elmhirst, Marissen, etc. The Party needs a shake up and those close to Martin need the boot.

And tell Denise she sucks.

I'm sort of lost here on how the Tories are seeing someting in Antonio's post that he did not say. Both Emerson and the senior braintrust of the Liberals in B.C and Ottawa that thought playing politics with the softwood file was good electionering are worthy of scorn.

I am BLAMING LIBERALS for this and yet i get scorn for whining. Playing politics with people's livelihoods is wrong. If Harper ever does the same thing, I will be just as pissed off.

I think some people are used to bitching. I never blamed any Conservatives for this, just that the guy who did this is the new Trade Minister and should be dealt with.

FIRE EMERSON!

First of all, if you are referring to me, I'm NOT a Tory and I'm NOT a Grit. Second, I am not claiming that Antonio is saying the Libs were alright in playing politics with the softwood lumber dispute.

What I'm saying is I hate how Antonio and so many other Liberals have this holier than thou attitude when it comes to political tricks - it's okay to run out on your electorate if you are Stronach or Brison (nevermind if they were re-elected, they left an electorate who orginally voted them in as Tories), but shame on Emerson for doing the same thing.

It's completely bogus. And I'm not at all saying that Harper was any better by accepting Emerson without a bi-election, but I at least salute the Tories for having the balls to speak out when they think something is wrong.

The typical Liberal strategy - culture of entitlement - what we do is okay because... well... we are Liberals. It's just such bull shit. But more than bull shit, it's tiring and irritating.

The way the Liberals have been handling themselves just proves this cocky attitude. I don't think I will be able to be a Grit for a long, long time or at least until things get cleaned up.

All this would have been avoided if Waddell won. But seeing the Liberals and Conservatives scramble like this might have been worth it. And apparantely there is a protest on Friday? I'm hoping for some burning Emerson efigies as well.

Ok anonymous, i'll bite.
Where did I criticize Emerson for crossing the floor. I did not. Not once. I couldn't because I supported Belinda's switch, and in all honesty, while they arent the same, it's close enough that supporting one not the other would make me a harpocrite.

As for Ian Waddell, I am still happy he is not an MP, after campaigning against him in 2004 (yes I used to campaign for Emerson), I still don't think he was better than Emerson after thatmess he made provincially in the NDP government. Maybe Dave Haggard can finally get a seat. We all know he deserves one

Poves ptits libéraux, vous êtres frustrés d'avoir perdu. C'est vrai que c'est plus dur de s'en mettre plein les poches quand on est dans l'opposition.

Will people in Kingsway actually trust a Liberal next time around? Credibility will be hurting big time for the Liberals in BC for the next little while. It just didn't look bad for the Conservatives necessarily. Reliability and trust, these are important things for the public.

Not sure if Waddell will run agian, but no doubt there will be a strong candidate there. Guess you could give Bill Cunnigham a call too. He's lost enough times in Burnaby and is available.
