À la rescousse de Belinda
À peine après avoir traversé de l'autre côté de la Chambre des communes, Belinda Stronach a eu droit à des analyses critiques sans scrupule sur sa décision de quitter le Parti conservateur pour la grande famille du Parti libéral du Canada. Ses anciens collègues n'ont pas tardé à donner des coups sous la ceinture en la traitant d'infidèle, de fille à papa, et de prostituée... Si un homme avait pris la même décision dans un contexte identique, qu'elle aurait été la réaction de ses ex-collègues ou du public en général ? Comme cela s'est produit à quelques reprises, je n'ai pas le souvenir qu'on ait interprété ce genre de geste de la même façon. La seule différence que je constate dans ce cas-ci est que certaines personnes aient pris plaisir à faire la nouvelle avec les finances privées de Mme Stronach et, pire encore, avec les déboires de sa vie amoureuse, seulement parce que c'est une cible facile à faire craquer; seulement parce que c'est une femme !!! (C'est drôle, la seule personne que j'ai vu craquer et aller voir son papa c'est le pauvre Peter…) Mme Stronach est une femme qui a très bien réussi sa vie dans le domaine privé et qui a su se faire respecter dans un monde d'hommes. Elle a voulu être fidèle à ses valeurs et au bien-être de ces concitoyens, chose que l'on peu aisément reprocher à plus d'un député conservateur. Pourquoi alors s'acharner avec tant d'impudeur sur quelqu'un qui assume avec autant de fierté ses convictions ? Quelle vivacité d'esprit et quel courage Mme Stronach a eu de se lever et de clamer haut et fort ses désaccords avec les actions partisanes de son ancien chef par un temps aussi belliqueux. L'alliance avec le Bloc québécois menaçait sa vision pour un Canada fort et uni, elle a donc agit en conséquence. À la lumière des événements de la dernière semaine, un plus gros problème que ceux des commandites ou des chicanes partisanes m'angoisse ; celui du respect des femmes en politique. J'espère seulement que les allégations de mauvais goût des derniers jours à propos de Belinda Stronach n'aura pas enlevé le goût à de future candidate de se présenter en politique… Brigitte et Sabrina
A True Canadian Hero
After his son’s murderer got off with a light sentence, Chuck Cadman went on a mission, to seek justice for his son. He joined the Reform party and got elected in 1997 in order to fight for stiffer sentences. He had every reason to hate the Liberal Party. He ran in 2000 as an Alliance member and looked forward to running as a member of the freshly-minted Conservative Party. Three parties, all with the intent of kicking out the Liberals; but Chuck Cadman fell victim to a powerful man in Surrey Politics, Gurmant Grewal. As deputy in one Surrey riding, he landed a second nomination for his wife in a second Surrey riding then tried to land a confidant in a third riding, Surrey North. It worked. 1000 South Asian Tories and one week later, Chuck Cadman’s political career was seemingly over. Then true tragedy struck in the form of skin cancer. This did not faze Cadman, who ran despite his illness full intent of serving his constituents. He beat Mini-Grewal handily, the tories finished fourth and as it turned out, Chuck Cadman had the deciding vote in the House of Commons. This week, Cadman faced a large test of conscience. Chuck Cadman joined politics to avenge his son’s injustice and to topple the Liberals. Now the time had finally come. Chuck Cadman alone could put the government out of its misery. However, he accepted the higher calling of his constituent, who like many Canadians, favoured waiting for Justice Gomery’s Report. Chuck Cadman is proof that there is hope for true democracy, that there are members of Parliament there for the best interest of their constituents. Bonjour chers lecteurs, Je veux m'excuser pour vous avoir privé pendant une semaine de mon opinion si éclairante. J'ai pris quelques "vacances" afin de me préparer pour la prochaine élection qui, semble-t-il, ne viendra pas. Contrairement à plusieurs, ce n'est pas avec un grande stupéfaction que j'ai appris l'arrivée de Belinda dans la grande famille libérale. À l'annonce de la conférence de presse du Premier Ministre, j'ai tout de suite appelé mes "plugs" au Parti. En fait, j'ai appelé quelqu'un que je crois très proche du PMO, la co-présidente de la campagne au Québec. Je lui ai demandé si la conférence de presse était pour présenter deux nouveaux députés libéraux de Terre-Neuve. J'avais la moitié de la réponse... En fait, je dirais les trois quarts car ça faisait longtemps que je disais que Belinda s'était trompé de parti, son père avait été candidat libéral en 1988 et elle promouvoit des valeurs sociales très loin de celles de Stephen Harper. J'avais aussi pu voir la discension au sein de leur caucus au dernier congrès à Montréal, auquel j'ai assisté en tant qu'observateur. La crisette de Peter Mackay quand Scott Reid (pas le proche du PM) avait voulu diluer tous les vieux Tories, m'avait fait sourire. Mes discussions avec des délégués de l'Ontario, du Québec et de l'Atlantique m'avait permis d'avoir une meilleure appréciation de la contestation du leadership de Stephen Harper. Il était donc inévitable que Belinda (ou la belle Lyndâ comme on l'appelait) ait une apparition divine. Belinda est une acquisition très intéressante, elle amène au moins une quizaine de comtés en Ontario, de l'argent (beaucoup d'argent de contacts dans le monde des affaires) et une candidature féminine de premier plan. Et Dieu qu'elle est photogénique ! J'appréhende déjà le nombre de pancartes qu'elle devra faire imprimer... Les jeunes mâles vont voler ses pancartes pour remplacer leurs posters des dernières stars féminines qui sont accrochés dans leur chambre à coucher. Enfin, je termine en vous suggérant de consulter les sondages faits après la venue de Belinda au PLC. Ce matin, j'ai pris connaissance de deux sondages faits hier. Nous aurions 20 points d'avance en Ontario, et nous aurions remonté de 9 points au Québec et le Bloc aurait perdu 8 points. Wow ! Permettez-moi de rêver à un gouvernement majoritaire libéral ! Je tiens également à souhaiter la bienvenue aux jeunes conservateurs de Belinda, on vous accueille à bras ouverts, on vous avait invité à votre congrès à Montréal, vous aviez, pour la plupart, décliné l'invitation mais le temps est venu d'y penser. Je veux également présenter mes excuses à Belinda pour avoir omis de payer mes consommations à son party à l'Hôtel Godin. En fait, jamais au Parti Libéral n'ai-je eu à payer mes consommations durant les congrès, et ce même si nous ne dépensons pas 100 000$ par party... Je peux aussi vous remettre les deux glaçons lumineux que j'avais "dérobés" à ce moment-là. Ils étaient vraiment cool ! En fait, à 4$ l'unité, je ne crois pas avoir fait un grand trou dans le budget de la fête. Et les partys des Conservateurs sont tellement ennuyants. En fait, les partys d'anciens conservateurs devenus libéraux sont vraiment bons, ma seule expérience a été avec Scott Brison et c'était mémorable ! Damsel no longer in distress
Come on, you’d do her Being the adolescent male that I am, I was ecstatic and floored when Belinda bolted from the Tories and into HRDC. PROS: 1) She is hot 2) She is powerful and is a role model to young Canadian women 3) HAHA Stephen Harper 4) HAHAHA Peter Mackay got screwed again 5) Did I mention, she is frickin HOT! CONS: 1) ervatives will miss her 2) ervatives lost their only connection to Ontario 3) ervatives will regret wanting to defeat this budget. 4) ervatives are calling her a dumb blond now because they'll truly miss her. 5) ervatives no longer have the hottest MP on the hill. In all seriousness, Belinda enhances the Liberal Party’s chances at taking a bite out of the Tory breakthrough from 2004. Belinda was a huge part of that and helped the Tories penetrate the 905 area and pick up seats. Three of the four are now in major danger of losing now that Belinda is gone. Belinda adds credibility to the party and its landmark budget, which creates a national child care program after 12 years of promises. Liberals were responsible to get the finances of the nation in order and now are able to deliver on their vision for Canada which will benefit all for generations to come. Belinda, welcome to the party, the 50 000$ at our next convention will be much better spent!
Oops he did it again
Just when you thought those Tories might sweep into power, Spin Inc. managed to spin their way out of a major logjam by cutting a deal with the NDP, a national address; throw in a Bush doll and a long white ponytail, and voila, MAGIC one vote short. The situation in the House has reached a boiling point. With David Kilgour not in the picture, the Liberals and Pinkos have managed to accumulate 152 votes while the Blocservatives have 153, including the morbidly obscene James Moore, who yes folks, only counts as one. All this effort is seemingly for naught. Although,I still hold out hope we can wait til January. Stephen Harper has overplayed his hand once again, he wants to put this government out is its misery. The only person needing to be euthanized right now is Gary frickin Bettman. So what does Harper do now? A new SES Poll has us darn liberals ahead by seven and a whopping12 points in Ontario. Oh darn, looks like its time for Stephen Harper to flip flop again. Now that he cant win, the government can wait to be put out of its misery. We must be headed into an election when Conservative MPs are already saying stupid things that expose their real opinion of other Canadians’s views. Who fired the first volley? None other than the Alberta Caucus Chair Ken Epp. Funny how they had a two hour caucus meeting where several MPs from Ontario expressed concern their constituents did not want an election such as Newmarket Aurora MP Belinda Stronach and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller. In that room 26 Alberta MPs and 24 Ontario MPs, that is rather revealing, isn’t it? After the brainwashing…er…I mean two hour talkathon, it was unanimous, Canadians want an election. Certains souverainistes retrouvent la raison
Voici un article paru dans la boîte aux lettres du Journal La Presse : Calcul politique mesquin Madame Christiane Gagnon, Député du Bloc québécois , Nous désirons exprimer l'opinion de deux jeunes souverainistes convaincus, mais aussi et surtout, de deux progressistes souhaitant vivre dans une société plus juste. Nous sommes d'avis que voter en faveur d'une motion de défiance contre l'actuel gouvernement libéral avant l'acceptation du budget tel que négocié par le Nouveau Parti démocratique ne serait rien d'autre que de l'opportunisme. Les valeurs défendues par le Bloc québécois devraient naturellement les porter à voter en faveur de ce budget, mais d'autres valeurs, plus partisanes, ont malheureusement pris le dessus. Ce calcul politique mesquin est d'autant plus condamnable qu'il précipiterait l'élection d'un parti conservateur " à l'américaine ". Si le Bloc québécois s'allie encore une fois aux conservateurs, cela équivaudra à les appuyer dans leurs efforts de surfer sur la vague du scandale des commandites. Dans de telles conditions, sachez que nous n'avons plus l'intention d'appuyer le Bloc québécois aux prochaines élections et inviterons quiconque à en faire autant. Declaration of War
Trivia Question. Who is the first person to declare war on Canada? You guessed it. Stephen Harper. Ok so he declared war on the Liberal Party but they are the governing party and that is unacceptable. So Stephen Harper wants to declare war on what he calls corruption in the Martin government. When has Paul Martin ever been corrupt? Adscam? Sorry dude, that happened years ago, under some other guy, you might know him, cuz he kicked your ass three times, goes by the name Chretien. Martin comes into power, cancels the Sponsorship Program, eliminates the agency that administers it, fires everyone associated to the former Prime Minister (whether that was good or not , no comment from me) and then calls a Public Inquiry with a hostile judge to get to the bottom of it. Can Stephen Harper tell me what he would have possibly done better? After all, he is applying for the job. Stephen Harper now says he does NOT support the budget because we cancelled tax cuts three years down the road and are spending money on education and affordable housing. There you have it. Stephen Harper says poor people and students are less important than tax cuts to large corporations. In fact, they are so important that he will make an alliance with a separatist party to bring down the government to protect those sacred 2008 tax cuts. Now that folks, is the devotion I only thought I could see in Republicans. The media has hit Martin hard too. Peter Hadekel says Ralph Goodale has no credibility and the corporate tax cuts should have stayed. Well Peter, you work for CanWest Global and I’m sure you would have liked the raise but like good ol’ Ralphie says minority parliaments are about compromise and sadly enough, we have to listen to the Video Professor and try his product or go down in flames. But wait, we are going down in flames anyway. I have a question for Mr. Harper, as I am certain he reads this blog. Why don’t you release your platform before the election? The Liberals have theirs; it’s the budget, a carbon copy of the previous platform AND there are no promises for corporate tax cuts either, so I would say, the NDP only kept the Liberals true to what Canadians elected them for. After all those hidden agenda accusations, is Harper going to tell the Canadian people they have to vote on simple allegations when all he has to promise them is nothing, AGAIN. I await the battle command, as I am excited to fight this new war. CORRECTION: the only other group of people to declare war on Canada were the Separatists. So Paul Coffin blames Guité. Why am I not surprised? They all say they were stupid but they walked away with millions of dollars. I wish I was stupid enough to make millions of dollars. It’s funny how nobody cared about Victor Coffin’s testimony. It is not as juicy. Well Chuck Guilty will testify this week and he has already contradicted himself, I am not promising fireworks. Où sont passés les intérêts du Québec?
Le Bloc Québécois s’amuse depuis les dernières semaines à vouloir défaire le gouvernement fédéral et salir la réputation des libéraux fédéraux au Québec avec des allégations de la commission Gomery. Quelles sont les vraies préoccupations du Bloc envers la population du Québec ? Jack Layton semble avoir trouvéle chemin de la négociation pour obtenir les compromis nécessaires pour satisfaire les demandes du NDP et ainsi faire marcher le gouvernement. Donc où sont nos défendeurs des intérêts du Québec ? Le Bloc pourrait faire leurs demandes ou du moins essayer quelque chose. Le gouvernement Martin est arrivé à un compromis de 4,6 milliards avec le NPD, mais où sont nos bloquistes qui crient au déséquilibre fiscal, à l’assurance emploi injuste ou à toutes autres demandes qui pourraient être discutées ? Ils ont la chance de négocier pour les intérêts du Québec mais ils sont prêts à laisser tomber leur chance pour leur propre intérêt, celui de retourner en élection .
Let the Gong Show Begin
The latest deal between Paul Martin and the Video Professor is further proof of the irrelevance of the NDP in this situation. If the Liberals did not have the NDP in their way, they would have surely won a majority of seats in the House of Commons in the previous federal election. Now, large corporations will have to wait longer than 3 years for corporate tax cuts, crocodile tears from Antonio, truly. Let’s be honest, the expiry date of this government is January, as an election will be called anyway. The government can then seek out a different mandate from Canadians. If Canadians actually want this plan to be passed, NDP supporters in close ridings like Oakville and Simcoe-Grey and others across Ontario should hold their noses and vote Liberal. If voting NDP means Stephen Harper in your riding, for the love of, I won’t say God, he’s a Republican, vote Liberal, then a Martin-Layton coalition may actually prove useful. Although until December, we need to keep ourselves entertained, we can do it WWF style. Une Claque sur la 'yeul
Hier, on a eu une invasion du bloc, qui ont posté sur notre site sous le nom de “mafia libérale.” Comme beaucoup des italiens au Canada, on doit vivre avec des personnes irrespectueuses qui essayent de démontrer que les italiens n'ont rien contribué à la societé Canadienne. Je note aussi que mes "posts" ont été ciblés. Je suis très déçu de ce developpement et je réalise que certain séparatistes veulent encore leur societé pure laine mais ici au Parti Libéral, on a beaucoup plus de respect pour nos communautés culturelles. Je vois que M. Parizeau à vraiment affecté ses militants séparatistes. J’espère que les autres ne sont pas si irrespectueux.
